While it may be years before a vaccine is available to treat tobacco use and other addictions, scientists have been exploring opportunities to use vaccines as a smoking cessation aid. The vaccine would not prevent people from using tobacco, but it would block addictive substances from reaching the brain, rendering the tobacco product less pleasurable for the user.
